Birchbark Books and Milkweed Editions are delighted to bring together two of North America's foremost indigenous writers to share and discuss their work. Richard Wagamese (Ojibway) brings his new novel, Medicine Walk, which follows a son and his father as they undertake the journey of a lifetime through the rugged British Columbian wilderness. Robin Wall Kimmerer (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) will read from her recent nonfiction collection Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, a book that received the Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Award as well as the Midwest Independent Booksellers' Choice Award. After briefly reading from their work and discussing the powerful ways we use stories—in both nonfiction and fiction—to define ourselves and the world around us.
